The authorities stopped the ferry movement around 5pm due to loss of navigability, leaving at least five ferries stuck in the Louhajang channel.
Abdul Alim, manager of Mawa Ferry ghat said ferry services on the route virtually remained closed after a row ferry had got stuck in the Louhajang channel in the afternoon.
Sub-inspector Mosharraf Hossain, in-charge of Mawa River police camp, said a tug boat had been sent to rescue the ferries.
