The body of former Air Force Flight Lieutenant Tahsif Souri was recovered from the Bandar Ghat area in Tongi on Wednesday afternoon.
Preliminary assessments suggest that he may have drowned, but the exact cause of death will be determined after an autopsy.
Constable Rakib, who was on duty at the Naval Police control room, confirmed the recovery to Bangla Tribune, saying a Naval Police team retrieved the body after receiving information through the national emergency helpline 999.
The body was sent to the morgue at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in Dhaka for an autopsy.
His identity was confirmed after his mobile phone and wristwatch were found, Rakib said.
The cause of death will be established once the autopsy report is available.
