Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST) has called for a swift and impartial investigation into the killing of journalist Lutfuzzaman Alif Fakir in Netrokona, demanding justice for those responsible and legislation to protect journalists.

In a statement issued to the media on Saturday, BLAST expressed deep concern over the killing and urged the authorities to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, identify all those involved and bring them to justice.

According to media reports, Alif, 44, was shot dead by two young men on Thursday night, after leaving a tea shop in the Telnjia area of Durgapur upazila.

He was the Netrokona correspondent for online channel Rupashi Bangla and also ran a Facebook page called “Detective Article”, where he reported on various irregularities and crimes.

Alif had previously been attacked by assailants on November 10, 2025.

In its statement, BLAST stressed the need to ensure a safe environment for journalists to perform their professional duties, including gathering and publishing news.

The organisation also called on the authorities to protect every person's right to life and ensure accountability through impartial investigations into all killings, regardless of the motive, including personal disputes.
