The Coast Guard has detained three alleged smugglers and seized 960 sacks of urea fertilizer while they were being smuggled to Myanmar from Mirsarai in Chittagong.
Coast Guard media officer Lt Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon disclosed the information in a press release on Friday afternoon. He said a special operation was conducted around 1am on Thursday near Ichakhali Ghat in Mirsarai by the Coast Guard Station.
During the operation, Coast Guard personnel seized 960 sacks, or 48,000kg, of urea fertilizer worth around Tk3.36 million. The fertilizer was being transferred from trucks to a fishing boat for illegal shipment to Myanmar.
The operation also led to the detention of three alleged smugglers and the seizure of four trucks and a fishing boat used in the smuggling operation.
Legal action has been taken against the seized fertilizer, vehicles, boat and detainees in the presence of an executive magistrate, the Coast Guard said.
