56 dead in floods, landslides across 7 districts; over 10,800 in shelters

Cox's Bazar was the worst-hit district, recording 31 deaths, including 18 local residents and 13 Rohingyas, 24 injuries and one person missing

At least 56 people have lost their lives and 39 others have been injured in heavy rain-triggered flash floods and landslides across seven districts, with 10,854 displaced people now staying in 329 government-run shelters, according to the latest official update.

The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief released the figures in a situation report updated until 4:00pm on Tuesday.

Senior Information Officer Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman Tuhin said the affected districts are Khagrachhari, Rangamati, Bandarban, Cox's Bazar, Chittagong, Moulvibazar and Habiganj.

The ministry's summary reported 59 flood-affected upazilas, although the district-wise breakdown listed 57 upazilas. A total of 334 unions and 12 municipalities have been affected.

According to the report, Cox's Bazar recorded the highest death toll, with 31 fatalities, including 18 local residents and 13 Rohingyas. The district also reported 24 injuries and one person missing.

Chittagong reported 15 deaths and 12 injuries, while Bandarban recorded six deaths, Rangamati three and Moulvibazar one. Khagrachhari reported one injured person, while Bandarban reported two injuries.

To accommodate those displaced by the disaster, authorities have opened 70 shelters in Chittagong, where 3,140 people have taken refuge. Rangamati has opened 40 shelters accommodating 3,158 people, while 54 shelters in Bandarban are housing 2,584 people. In Moulvibazar, 10 shelters are sheltering 1,745 people.

In Khagrachhari, 34 people are staying in three shelters, while 193 people have taken refuge in three shelters in Cox's Bazar. Although two shelters have been opened in Habiganj, the report did not specify the number of evacuees there.

Overall, 329 shelters are currently housing 10,854 displaced people, according to the district-wise data.

The report also said partial waterlogging has affected Chittagong city and 16 upazilas, impacting 122 unions and localities.

In Cox's Bazar, 71 unions and four municipalities across 10 upazilas have been affected. Rangamati has reported flooding in 43 unions and two municipalities across nine upazilas, while Bandarban has recorded damage in 34 unions and two municipalities across seven upazilas.
