The Dhaka University administration has suspended four professors on a provisional basis in light of multiple allegations, including their contentious conduct during the July Mass Uprising, and their alleged labelling of protesting students as "Razakars," and threats made against students.
The decisions were taken at a syndicate meeting held on Monday night, chaired by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr ABM Obaidul Islam.
Pro-VC (admin) Dr Almujaddade Alfasane, who was present in the syndicate meeting confirmed the details to Dhaka Tribune.
The four professors suspended are: Prof Dr Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah of the Department of Public Administration; Prof. AKM Jamal Uddin of the Department of Sociology; Prof Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam of the Department of Banking and Insurance; and Prof Dr Mohammad Azmal Hossain Bhuiyan of the Department of Botany. On the same charges, a university official, Lavlu Molla Shishir (Muhammad Lavlu Molla), has also been provisionally suspended.
In a separate action, Chowdury Md Tashrik-E-Habib of the Department of Bangla has been relieved of all academic duties, in accordance with a recommendation from the department's own academic council. He had previously gone widely viral on social media for singing videos, which drew significant criticism within the university.
