The government is prioritising four key considerations in boosting investment and setting and implementing budget priorities, Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said while presenting the proposed budget for the 2026–27 fiscal year in parliament on Thursday.
The four considerations are value for money — ensuring the best use of limited resources; return on investment — assessing the effective economic benefits of projects funded with public resources; job creation — ensuring government investment plays a clear role in generating employment; and environmental considerations — maintaining vigilance in protecting nature and the environment.
The finance minister said the current government has already begun laying the foundation for a competitive, productive, equitable, inclusive and dignified Bangladesh by curbing the dominance of a small group of beneficiaries.
“We have reflected the initial steps of that process in this budget. We are confident that this budget will serve as a policy framework for the coming year to promote inclusive development, ensure safe and decent employment, strengthen accountability in the state, and guarantee the active participation of citizens from all walks of life in the country’s development journey,” he said.
