The possibility of a political conspiracy behind the fire at the Kalshi slum cannot be ruled out, National Citizen Party (NCP) spokesperson Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain has said.

He also called for a proper investigation into the incident while speaking to reporters on Sunday after visiting the fire-affected area at Bauniabandh slum in Kalshi, Dhaka.

During the visit, food was distributed among the affected residents under an initiative of the NCP’s Dhaka North Metropolitan unit.

NCP Central Joint Convener and Convener of Dhaka North Metropolitan unit Ariful Islam Adib was also present during the inspection.

Asif said that slum residents should not be evicted throgh arson. He stressed that any relocation must be carried out through proper rehabilitation and compensation.

He also raised questions over whether the fire was linked to anger stemming from recent clashes surrounding an eviction drive.

During the visit, he spoke with affected residents, listened to their accounts of hardship, and inquired about the condition of those injured in the fire.

Asif Mahmud emphasized the need for swift rehabilitation of affected families, emergency relief assistance, and the adoption of long-term plans to support the victims.
