The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (Bajus) has raised gold prices again in the domestic market, citing an increase in the price of pure (acid-tested) gold locally.
In a statement on Wednesday, Bajus said the price of 22-carat gold has been increased by Tk2,216 per bhori, bringing the new rate to Tk250,193. The revised price took effect from 10am.
The association said the decision was made after reviewing overall market conditions, particularly the rise in the price of pure gold in the local market.
Under the new rates, 21-carat gold is priced at Tk238,820 per bhori (11.664 grams), while 18-carat gold stands at Tk204,703. Gold made using the traditional method has been set at Tk166,737 per bhori.
Earlier, on April 9, Bajus had reduced the price of 22-carat gold by Tk4,432 per bhori to Tk247,977.
So far this year, gold prices in the country have been adjusted 55 times, reflecting continued volatility in the market, according to industry insiders.
