Gold prices have increased again in Bangladesh, with the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) raising the price by Tk 2,216 per bhori.
In a notice issued Friday morning, BAJUS said the new prices took effect at 10am
The price of 22-carat gold has been set at Tk223,074 per bhori (11.664 grams), including VAT. The prices of 21-carat, 18-carat, and traditional-method gold have been set at Tk213,043, Tk182,950, and Tk149,474 per bhori, respectively.
BAJUS said the adjustment was made due to a rise in the price of pure gold in the local market. The decision was taken at a meeting of its Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring.
The new rates will remain in effect until further notice. Labour charges will be determined separately based on the design and craftsmanship of the jewellery.
VAT is included in the selling price of gold and silver jewellery and cannot be collected separately from customers.
For jewellery exchanges or sales of old jewellery, the existing rules will remain in place after deducting VAT, labour charges and the value of stones.
BAJUS had last reduced gold prices on July 28, cutting Tk 2,216 per bhori and setting the price of 22-carat gold at Tk 220,858, including VAT.
The latest hike, announced just three days later, has pushed the price above the previous rate.
