Middle East tension: 1,060 flights cancelled at Dhaka airport

The cancellations are expected to continue if the situation does not return to normal

A total of 1,060 flights have been cancelled from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport due to the security situation in the Middle East. The cancellations took place between February 28 and Sunday (April 12).

Assistant Director of Public Relations at Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), Kawsar Mahmud, confirmed the information.

He said that on February 28, several Middle Eastern countries—including Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar and Jordan—closed their airspace following the emerging security situation in the region. As a result, flights from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport were cancelled.

According to CAAB, 339 flights were cancelled between February 28 and March 9, 275 between March 10 and March 19, 226 between March 20 and March 29, 160 between March 30 and April 8, and 60 between April 9 and April 12.

The cancellations are expected to continue if the situation does not return to normal.
