The Ministry of Public Administration has issued 11 special directives for government officials and employees to ensure improved public service delivery and administrative efficiency.

A letter in this regard was sent on Sunday to all ministries, departments, agencies, divisional commissioners, deputy commissioners (DCs) and upazila nirbahi officers (UNOs).

According to the ministry, all government officials and employees must remain present in their respective offices from 9am to 9:40am daily.

Although similar instructions had earlier been issued by the Cabinet Division, deviations were observed at the field level. The ministry emphasized that officials’ presence at their desks during this period is essential to ensure uninterrupted public services.

The letter also stressed the need for responsible and efficient use of electricity and fuel in view of the current situation. Maintaining cleanliness in office premises and ensuring a healthy working environment were also highlighted as key priorities.

The ministry noted that strict adherence to these directives is crucial for maintaining discipline in government work and safeguarding public interest. Authorities concerned have been urged to enforce the instructions rigorously.

The 11 directives are:

  1. Officials must remain in their respective offices from 9am to 9:40am daily, ensuring that official schedules do not interfere with this time period.
  2. During daytime, when sufficient natural light is available, electric lights should be used sparingly, and windows, doors, or blinds should remain open to utilize natural light.
  3. Only the necessary number of lights, fans, air conditioners, and electrical equipment should be used during office hours.
  4. Air conditioner temperatures must be maintained at 25°C or above.
  5. All electrical appliances, including lights, fans, and air conditioners, must be switched off before leaving rooms.
  6. Unnecessary lighting in corridors, stairways, and washrooms must be avoided.
  7. After office hours, all electrical equipment—including lights, fans, computers, printers, scanners, and air conditioners—must be turned off.
  8. Decorative lighting should be avoided unless specifically authorized by government directives.
  9. Fuel consumption must be kept economical.
  10. Office rooms, corridors, toilets, stairways, and handrails must be cleaned regularly to maintain hygiene.
  11. All offices and agencies must form vigilance teams to monitor compliance with these directives.

This move comes as part of the government’s broader effort to strengthen discipline in public offices and promote energy conservation across administrative institutions.
