Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku has stated that Bangladesh does not face a shortage of fuel, but the problem arises from sudden surges in demand at petrol pumps.
“I have repeatedly said that we have no problem with oil supply. The issue is that previously a petrol pump could serve one tanker of fuel per day. Now, due to the ongoing war, people are stockpiling fuel, and what used to sell in a whole day is now sold within two hours. Then the pump appears closed, and people say it’s out of fuel,” the minister explained.
He made the remarks while speaking to journalists after a visit to the Sirajganj 68 MW Solar Park on Friday noon.
The minister added that fuel supply is continuous and district commissioners and police chiefs across the country are monitoring the situation.
However, he noted that the sudden surge in demand has led to corruption and black marketing, which has already been detected in Sirajganj and other parts of the country.
