576,000 litres of illegally hoarded fuel seized in nationwide drives

More than 11,000 raids conducted; over 4,000 cases filed and fines imposed to curb illegal stockpiling

Mobile court drives across the country have seized 5,76,993 litres of illegally hoarded fuel aimed at preventing stockpiling and ensuring a smooth supply system.

The Energy and Mineral Resources Division said the drives, conducted from March to Tuesday, led to the seizure of the highest volume of diesel, totaling 390,209 litres. Besides, 40,846 litres of octane, 97,483 litres of petrol, and around 48,500 litres of furnace oil were recovered.

To ensure proper fuel management, a total of 11,197 drives were carried out across the country until Tuesday, resulting in the filing of 4,053 cases.

During the drives, mobile courts realized fines amounting to Tk1,80,96,115 while 54 individuals were sentenced to imprisonment for various offences.

The division said such drives would continue in the future to maintain discipline in the energy sector and curb illegal activities.
