Update : 26 Mar 2026, 11:15 AM

A colorful parade has begun at the National Parade Square at the old airport in Tejgaon to mark Bangladesh's Independence Day on Thursday morning.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin is taking the salute at the Independence and National Day parade.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is also present at the parade ground, alongside the chiefs of the three armed forces, members of the cabinet, senior government officials, and both local and foreign dignitaries, including ambassadors.

The parade is being organized at the National Parade Square under the directive of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, supervised by the Armed Forces Division, and managed by the 9th Infantry Division.

This parade display has been included in the March 26 celebrations for the first time in 18 years, since 2008.

But the Victory Day parade on December 16th is held almost every year, except during the Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus-led interim government period after the toppling of the Awami League regime on August 5, 2024.

Major General SM Asadul Haque, General Commanding Officer of the 9th Infantry Division, is commanding this year’s Independence and National Day parade.

The parade is open for all, and Bangladesh State Television and other media are broadcasting it.
