State Minister for Textiles and Jute Md Shariful Alam has emphasized that the excavation of canals will improve water flow and irrigation facilities, reducing production costs for farmers by lowering electricity and fuel expenses.
“Development remains limited to paper if the rural economy is not strengthened. The government is implementing groundbreaking measures one by one to improve the lives of ordinary people,” the minister said during the inauguration of the Aribil canal excavation program in Nikli Upazila on Monday.
A press release issued by the Ministry of Textiles and Jute said it.
Referring to various government initiatives, the minister highlighted the Family Card program, which has already begun under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. Nearly a thousand families in Kishoreganj are now receiving financial assistance through this program.
He also mentioned honorarium allowances for imams and muezzins, and announced that the Farmer Card will be launched in April to support cultivators, farmers, jute growers, and silk farmers.
The minister further noted that the government has waived agricultural loans, including interest, totaling Tk1005 crore for around 1.2 million farmers.
The canal excavation program was inaugurated by Md Shariful Alam himself.
Members of parliament from Kishoreganj constituencies, including Mazharul Islam (Kishoreganj-1), Advocate Jalal Uddin (Kishoreganj-2), and Sheikh Mozibur Rahman Iqbal (Kishoreganj-5), attended the event.
