The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (Bajus) has again decided to reduce gold prices in the local market.
The price of 22-carat gold has now been set at Tk264,947 per bhori. Previously, the price of this gold quality was Tk267,106 per bhori; it has now been reduced by Tk2,159 per bhori.
The new price of 21-carat gold has been fixed at Tk252,875 per bhori, down from the previous price of Tk254,975.
In a notice issued on Friday, Bajus said the decision to cut gold prices was taken at an emergency meeting of its Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring after the price of pure (acid-tested) gold declined.
The meeting, held at 9:30am, reviewed the overall market situation and set the new prices, which came into effect at 10am the same day.
According to the revised price list:
- 22-carat hallmark gold: Tk22,715 per gram
- 21-carat hallmark gold: Tk21,680 per gram
- 18-carat hallmark gold: Tk18,585 per gram
- Traditional method gold: Tk15,170 per gram
The new prices will remain effective at all jewellery shops across the country until further notice.
Jewellery traders have also been instructed to collect the government-set 5% VAT from customers on the sale of gold and silver ornaments and deposit it in the state treasury.
