Mild tremor shakes parts of Bangladesh

A mild tremor was felt in different parts of the country.

The earthquake measured 5.2 on the Richter scale and occurred at 4:47am on Monday.

According to the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Centre and international earthquake monitoring agencies, the epicentre of the quake was located about 10 kilometres underground near the Dhing area of India’s Assam state.

The epicentre was approximately 3 kilometres west of Dhing town and 76 kilometres northeast of the state capital, Guwahati.

Earlier, on December 10 last year, two earthquakes were felt in Sylhet within a span of five minutes. The first tremor occurred at 2:20:31am, followed by a second at 2:25:14am. The epicentres of both quakes were located in Biyanibazar, a border area between Bangladesh and India in Sylhet’s Jokiganj upazila.

Additionally, a strong earthquake measuring 5.7 struck the country at 10:38am on November 21 last year. Its epicentre was in Madhabdi of Narsingdi. The quake caused cracks in several buildings and resulted in the deaths of 10 people.

Mild tremors were also felt across the country on November 22, 23 and 26, as well as on December 2.
