A severe traffic jam has formed in front of the National Press Club due to the National Citizen Party (NCP) rally.
Around 5:15pm on Saturday, leaders and activists occupied both sides of the road to hold a gathering, causing heavy congestion and creating hardship for commuters and pedestrians.
Earlier, at 4pm on Saturday, a large number of NCP leaders and activists marched from Banglamotor, demanding the execution of the verdict against those responsible for the July mass killings and calling for the trial of the Awami League and its allies as a political party.
They marched through Shahbagh and Matsya Bhaban intersections before gathering in front of the National Press Club.
The traffic congestion triggered by the rally has extended eastward to Paltan intersection and westward to the Kadam Fountain intersection.
NCP Convener Nahid Islam and other central leaders were present at the gathering.
