Physical altercations top reasons for emergency calls to 999 during Eid holidays

A total of 15,619 people across the country received assistance by calling the National Emergency Service number 999 during the Eid-ul-Azha holidays, with the highest number -- 4,102 -- seeking help for issues related to physical altercations.

The information was provided in a press release issued on Sunday by Media and Public Relations Officer Anwar Sattar of the National Emergency Service.

According to the press release, between June 5 and June 13, during the Eid-ul-Azha holidays, the 999 emergency service received a total of 220,388 calls.

Out of these, 15,619 people received emergency assistance—13,831 received urgent police assistance, 993 received ambulance services, and 795 were assisted by the fire service.

The release further stated that the largest portion of those who received emergency services -- 4,102 individuals -- sought help over altercations stemming from disputes over dominance or minor incidents.

Additionally, 1,214 people received help for being forcibly detained over financial transactions, 1,062 sought emergency ambulance or medical services, and 992 were assisted in situations involving various types of criminal activities.

Furthermore, 1,271 people received assistance related to extortion at cattle markets, on roads, or in rivers during Eid-ul-Azha, as well as complaints involving the forcible relocation of animals to other markets, incidents involving unconsciousness-inducing or ointment gangs, and noise pollution.
