Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus may soon deliver a speech to the nation, as election-related discussions continue to intensify.
According to indications received during conversations with several prominent political leaders on Thursday night, the chief adviser’s upcoming address may include a roadmap regarding the election. However, some sources expressed differing opinions on this possibility.
Attempts to contact several senior officials from the chief adviser’s office for comments were unsuccessful.
Multiple party leaders spoke to Bangla Tribune on Thursday night. Some of them stated that the chief adviser could present his position before the nation within the next day or two.
A senior politician told Bangla Tribune that it is difficult to predict the content of the address until it is delivered. He added that the chief adviser is unlikely to announce any specific election date, as that authority lies with the Election Commission.
When asked, Nagorik Oikya President Mahmudur Rahman Manna said: “I believe Professor Yunus will provide a framework regarding the election. He may offer guidance on the process. Otherwise, there appears to be no logical reason for him to address the nation at this time.”
Manna further stated: “If the chief adviser oversees the election while remaining in power, it will be beneficial for the development of democracy.”
A senior BNP official told Bangla Tribune that they do not expect the chief adviser to announce a specific date for the election. However, another senior leader from the party said that the chief adviser could give the nation a clear commitment regarding the upcoming polls.
Political parties, including the BNP, have been consistently calling for elections to be held by December. The chief adviser is also expected to travel to the United Kingdom after Eid, where he is likely to meet with political leaders.
