National Security Adviser Dr Khalilur Rahman on Sunday said he remains prepared to exercise his rights as a Bangladeshi citizen to the fullest extent.
"I remain prepared to exercise my rights as a Bangladeshi citizen to the fullest extent," the National Security Adviser told UNB when his attention was drawn to a recent allegation by BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed that Dr Rahman is a foreign citizen.
Dr Rahman also said the burden of proof of the allegation rests on the individual who made it and, if necessary, it would have to be proven before a court of law.
Earlier, BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed had raised questions about how a foreign national was appointed as Bangladesh’s national security adviser.
"You (Dr Yunus) have made a foreign citizen the national security adviser. How will our armed forces report to a foreign national? He will work for his own country, not for Bangladesh," he said.
Salahuddin Ahmed made the comments on Saturday while delivering the keynote speech at a youth rally organized by the Jubo Dal, Swechhasebak Dal, and Chhatra Dal at the Circuit House ground in Khulna.
