Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid on Sunday inaugurated a newly built 6,000-tonne fertilizer warehouse at the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) campus in Gabtoli, Dhaka.

The prefabricated steel warehouse was constructed under a BADC project to expand fertilizer storage capacity, said a press release.

BADC Chairman Md Azizul Islam presided over the inauguration ceremony, attended by Agriculture Secretary Md Selim Khan, ministry officials, BADC representatives, and fertilizer dealers.

Speaking at the event, the agriculture minister said BADC plays a vital role in ensuring farmers receive fertilizer and other agricultural inputs at fair prices and on time.

Stressing that storing fertilizer was not enough, he said ensuring its timely delivery to farmers must be the priority. Delays in supplying essential agricultural inputs could disrupt crop production, he added.

He directed officials to strengthen the entire supply chain, from storage and transportation to distribution, and ensure regular monitoring of fertilizer stocks. He also called for digitalization of inventory management and distribution systems.

The agriculture minister said more warehouses would be built in different parts of the country, including the northern region, in line with the prime minister's directives to increase storage capacity.

He further stressed the need for advance planning based on farmers' actual demand and warned against creating artificial shortages of agricultural inputs.

Saying agricultural development was key to national progress, he noted that the government was prioritizing farmers through timely fertilizer supplies, canal re-excavation, and tree-planting initiatives.

He urged BADC officials and employees to work with sincerity and accountability to ensure farmers receive fertilizer, seeds, and other essential inputs on time.
