The investigation into the BDR carnage is progressing swiftly, with the commission aiming to finalize the report by June, as the Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, emphasized the need to uncover the mystery behind the massacre.

Members of the investigation commission met with the chief adviser at the State Guesthouse Jamuna on Wednesday at 5pm.

During the meeting, the chief adviser was briefed on the progress of the investigation.

Commission chief Major General (Retd) Alam Fazlur Rahman said: “We are in contact with various parties. Since the incident took place 16 years ago, there’s been some delay in reaching certain individuals.”

He added: “Many of the accused are currently abroad. We are coordinating with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to locate them.”

He further said: "We have interviewed a few individuals who are currently in prison. There are 23 people abroad who need to be contacted for the investigation, and eight of them have agreed to provide interviews."

The commission chief added: "We are investigating the pattern of the killings and torture. After the killing of the DG, the others were also killed. This was a planned massacre. Such killings cannot happen without a plan."

He also remarked: "This seems like a repeat of Plassey. We must trace its roots."

Commission member, Major General (Retd) Jahangir Kabir Talukdar, also said: "In such a horrific massacre, no officers or staff have been removed. No one has been held accountable. This is a failure of intelligence agencies, the military, and political leadership."

The chief adviser assured the commission of full cooperation from the government, saying: "They brutally killed their own officers. This massacre was carried out smoothly."

Emphasizing that the entire nation is looking to the investigation commission, the Chief Adviser said: "We are all searching for answers. The commission must succeed in this investigation. This mystery must be uncovered."

The meeting was attended by members of the BDR massacre investigation commission, including Brigadier General Md Saidur Rahman, Munshi Alauddin Al Azad, Dr M Akbar Ali, Md Shariful Islam, Shahnewaz Khan Chandan, and ATKM Iqbal.
