A directive to reinstate the "except Israel" clause in Bangladeshi passports has been issued.
This information was announced in a notification signed by Nilima Afroze, deputy secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, on Monday.
The notification reads: “In view of the above, you are hereby requested to take necessary steps to reinstate the clause 'except Israel' in Bangladeshi passports, following due procedure, as was previously practiced.”
The phrase "This passport is valid for all countries of the world except Israel" was previously printed on Bangladeshi passports, but the words "except Israel" were dropped in 2021 during the Awami League government's tenure, citing compliance with international passport formatting standards.
