According to the previous schedule, the exam was supposed to be held on June 27

The Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC) has announced that the 47th BCS preliminary examination will commence on August 8.

This information was announced in a notice signed by Shahida Khatun, the official in charge of the PSC’s Public Relations Department, on Sunday.

According to the previous schedule, the exam was supposed to be held on June 27.

However, facing demands from job seekers, the PSC finally decided to postpone the date.

The notice also mentioned that the written exam for the 46th BCS will begin on May 8, as previously announced.

The circular for the 47th BCS was published in 2024. The recruitment plan includes 3,487 cadre posts and 201 non-cadre positions. Nearly 400,000 candidates have applied to sit for the exam.

Currently, there is a backlog of four BCS examinations, with some processes dragging on for over three years. The 44th, 45th, and 46th BCS exams were initiated under the former Awami League government. The 47th BCS circular, the latest, was issued in November last year.

In an effort to clear the backlog, the current PSC leadership is aiming to complete each BCS cycle within a year. Alongside this, revisions to the existing BCS syllabus are also being considered.

The Public Administration Reform Commission has submitted a report to the government recommending that the entire BCS process — from examination to recruitment — be completed within 18 months.

According to the proposal, exams should be concluded within the first 12 months, followed by six months for publishing final results and completing recruitment.
