Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin has said that India’s cancellation of the long-standing transshipment facility for exporting Bangladeshi goods to third countries will not create problems for Bangladesh.
He made the remarks while responding to reporters’ questions at the Secretariat on Thursday.
The adviser said: “India has suddenly made this decision. However, it won’t be a problem. We will try to overcome this challenge through our own arrangements. Our trade relations with India will continue to grow.”
It is worth noting that on June 29, 2020, India’s Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) issued an order allowing Bangladesh to use one of its customs stations to send goods to third countries. Under this facility, goods could be transported via land, sea, or air routes using Indian ports.
However, on Tuesday, India’s CBIC abruptly revoked that order. As a result, Bangladeshi goods can no longer travel through Indian territory to reach third countries.
Additionally, vehicles currently inside India carrying such goods have been instructed to leave the country immediately.
