Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said there has been no rise in militancy since the interim government took office, so there is no cause for concern over the issue.

His statement came on Wednesday, during Eid greetings distribution and inspection activities at various police stations in the capital, including Khilkhhet, Badda and Vatara, while responding to questions from journalists.

Addressing a query about a report published by The New York Times, he said: “I do not wish to comment on what any newspaper has stated."

He elaborated that for the initial three days following the events of 5 August, there was no government in place.

“Since that time, the situation has been gradually improving. Now everyone is making a concerted effort, and our security forces are working tirelessly. This progress is expected to continue in the future,” he asserted.
