The BNP has dissolved the central committee of the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB), the physicians' body of the party.
The party has also formed a 12-member preparatory and management committee for the upcoming DAB council, according to a press release signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Monday.
"The existing central committee of DAB, led by President Professor Harun Al Rashid and General Secretary Dr Md Abdus Salam, has been dissolved," the press release said.
Professor Harun Al Rashid was elected President and Dr Md Abdus Salam was elected General Secretary of DAB through direct voting by councillors on May 26, 2019.
The tenure of the committee was due to expire on 25 May 2024.
The newly formed preparatory and management committee has been tasked with completing the council proceedings within the next 45 days.
The 12-member committee for the council’s preparation and management includes BNP Chairperson's Advisory Council members Ismail Zabiullah, Bijon Kanti Sarker, Professor Mamun Ahmed, Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, National University Pro-Vice Chancellor Lutfor Rahman, BNP Education Secretary Professor ABM Obaidul Islam, Health Secretary Rofiqul Islam, Assistant Office Secretaries SM Rofiqul Islam, Parvez Reza Kakon, and members of the dissolved committee Shah Mohammad Aman Ullah, Erfan Ahmed Shohel, and Mustafa Aziz Suman.
