Update : 23 Mar 2025, 04:57 PM

To mark Genocide Day with due respect, as in previous years, the entire country will observe a blackout on the night of March 25 (Tuesday).

The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs announced this program in a press release on Sunday, reports Bangla Tribune

The press release stated that March 25 will be observed as Genocide Day, with various programs announced at the national level to commemorate the day with due respect.

As part of these activities, the entire country will observe a one-minute blackout from 10:30pm to 10:31pm on that day (excluding key infrastructure/emergency sites), according to the press release.

Moreover, no buildings or establishments—whether government, semi-government, autonomous, or private—will be allowed to display any lights on the night of March 25, the release said.

Additionally, the president and the chief adviser will deliver speeches on that day, it said.

At all schools, colleges, madrasas, and vocational institutions across the country, discussions and reflections on the genocide will be held, featuring prominent figures and freedom fighters, it added.

A seminar on the genocide and the liberation war will be organized at the Liberation War Museum.

The press release also mentioned that rare photographs and documentaries on the genocide will be displayed in all city corporations, including Dhaka.

The events will be broadcast by Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar, the release said.

Furthermore, in memory of those who were killed on the night of March 25, special prayers (Munajat) will be held after the Zuhr prayer or at a convenient time in all mosques, and other places of worship will also hold prayers.
