Gono Odhikar Parishad's General Secretary Md Rashed Khan said that efforts to position the army against the people are aimed at bringing back another 1/11 scenario.
Rashed made the comment while speaking at a sit-in and public signing campaign organized by the Dhaka South Metropolitan unit of Gono Odhikar Parishad in front of the National Press Club on Saturday, reports Bangla Tribune.
He said: "Those conspiring to put the army against the public are trying to bring back another 1/11."
He emphasized that any attempt to revive such a situation would primarily harm the political parties in the country and assured that another 1/11 would not be allowed in Bangladesh.
He explained that the army played a crucial role in past uprisings, and without the army, no mass uprising would have succeeded in Bangladesh.
He further said that when the army pointed its guns at the fascist police of the Awami League, former prime minister Sheikh Hasina was forced to flee.
Rashed also outlined several demands from Gono Odhikar Parishad, including the need for justice for the genocide, necessary state reforms, and the announcement of an election roadmap.
He continued: "If there is any delay in announcing the election, the public will not tolerate it. The top priority in reforms is elections."
He criticized the advisers in the caretaker government for their inaction and power-driven motives, drawing comparisons to past attempts by Fakhruddin and Moinuddin to remain in power.
He further commented on the current situation, questioning the role of several advisers, many of whom are unknown, in managing the country’s law and order.
He accused them of failing to take action on critical issues, such as government leaders fleeing abroad while the so-called "Devil Hunt" operation was unsuccessful.
Rashed also said that no one from the Awami League should be allowed to participate in politics until after the genocide trials.
He questioned the integrity of those associated with the party and argued that only those who were innocent and did not directly participate in the violence should be pardoned.
Any attempt to rehabilitate the Awami League would be resisted by the people, he added.
He concluded by saying that, if necessary, they would organize protests, including surrounding the residence of the chief adviser of State Guest House Jamuna, to demand the banning of the Awami League.
