Dismissed members of the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) vacated the road in front of the secretariat on Wednesday following assurances of a meeting with the home adviser on Monday.

Later, at around 6:30pm, they began marching towards the Central Shaheed Minar.

Mahin Sarkar, coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, confirmed this during a briefing in front of the secretariat.

Earlier, student representative Mahin Sarkar addressed former BDR members and their families, saying: “An eight-member delegation met with the home adviser. He has expressed sympathy towards the demands of the BDR Welfare Council.”

He added: “These demands will be forwarded to the relevant commission for necessary decisions. If they fall beyond the commission’s jurisdiction, a new committee may be formed to reach a positive resolution.”

Mahin further said: “The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement coordinators have also expressed solidarity with the BDR Welfare Council’s movement. Considering public inconvenience, we urge everyone to leave the secretariat road and proceed to the Shaheed Minar.”
