BNP Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy has said that holding elections on time, without delay will earn universal respect.
"Human rights are never achieved without a struggle. There is no alternative to the streets. I think we will have to take to the streets again. I cannot say when. We may have to fight harder than in the past,” he said at a training workshop of the 12-party alliance at the National Press Club on Sunday afternoon.
The workshop was organized by the 12-party alliance under the theme “31 Points for Repairing the State Structure and Public Engagement,” aimed at democratic reform of the constitution and state system, and economic liberation.
BNP Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy added that it is necessary to see whether there is any other motive behind the interim government's reforms.
"I used to say this before, and I say it now—nothing can be achieved through seminars, symposiums, and ignorant speeches," he added.
He said: "We have seen that there is no coordination within the government in running the state. The chief adviser says one thing, his assistants say another. We also have doubts about whether the chief adviser's words reflect the views of everyone in the advisory council."
Gayeshwar Chandra Roy said: "We have been protesting for 16 years against a visible enemy. This visible enemy was not just the enemy of the BNP—it was an enemy of the entire country. Through a long process, we were able to overthrow this government at one stage. But we do not know what invisible forces are behind the current government."
Referring to the recent incident at Dhanmondi 32, he said: "If we create a bad precedent, our own houses will be vandalized in the future. What is the use of reforming if a bad tradition is being followed in the name of vandalism? Now, Sheikh Mujib's death anniversary will be observed on August 5. Sheikh Hasina finished him step by step."
He also commented that the people of the country know who is fueling the current government from behind.
He said: "You can find out who is occupying in the name of Islam by going to various offices."
Gayeshwar said: “'31 points is a national charter. Sixty-two parties are working tirelessly to establish this charter in agreement."
