Bangladesh has climbed four positions in the latest Henley Passport Index 2025, ranking 93rd out of 99 countries.
However, despite the improved ranking — up from 97th last year — the number of visa-free destinations for Bangladeshi passport holders has dropped from 42 in 2024 to 39 this year, indicating a decline in global travel privileges.
Bangladesh's passport remains among the weakest in the world, with Nepal and Pakistan ranking 94th and 96th, respectively.
Singapore secured the top spot, allowing its passport holders visa-free access to 193 destinations. Japan and South Korea followed with 190 visa-free destinations, while Germany, France, and Spain ranked third, granting access to 189 destinations.
At the bottom of the index, Afghanistan remains the lowest-ranked passport, offering its citizens visa-free access to just 25 countries.
Among South Asian nations, the Maldives holds the strongest passport, ranking 52nd with visa-free access to 93 destinations. India stands at 80th with access to 56 destinations, followed by Bhutan at 83rd with 51, Myanmar at 88th with 45, and Sri Lanka at 91st with 42 visa-free destinations.
Nepal and Pakistan remain among the lowest-ranked in the region, with visa-free access to 38 and 32 destinations, respectively.
The Henley Passport Index, compiled by UK-based Henley & Partners, is based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA). It ranks 199 passports by the number of destinations their holders can visit without a prior visa, covering 227 travel destinations worldwide.
