A 13km traffic jam in the Ghazaria section of the Dhaka-Chittagong highway has caused significant suffering for passengers.

According to highway police, the congestion began around 7am on Monday due to a road accident and a vehicle breakdown on the Comilla-bound lane near Baushia in Ghazaria, Munshiganj.

The situation worsened as the day progressed, with the jam spreading across the 13km stretch.

Bus driver Kurban Ali said: "It took me an hour to reach the Bhaberchar bus stand from Jamaldi. I don’t know how much longer it will take to reach my destination."

Md Humayun Kabir, in charge of the Ghazaria Bhaberchar Highway Police Outpost, said: "Efforts are underway to remove the accident-damaged vehicles from the highway. Traffic is moving slowly and will return to normal soon."
