Bangladesh slips 3 notches in global passport ranking

  • Bangladesh ranking 100th alongside Libya and Palestine
  • Singapore ranked first
  • Afghanistan at the bottom

In 2025, Bangladesh has dropped three positions in the global passport ranking, standing at 100th place at present.

Last year, Bangladesh ranked 97th.

The following year, it shares the same position with Libya and Palestine.

The UK-based firm Henley & Partners released the index on Wednesday, providing insights on passport strength based on the number of countries a passport holder can visit without prior visa arrangements.

The ranking considers 199 passports and 227 travel destinations worldwide.

According to the index, Bangladeshi passport holders can now travel visa-free or with visa-on-arrival access to 40 countries, down from 42 countries last year.

In the previous index, Bangladesh shared its position with North Korea.

Singapore tops this year’s ranking, with its passport holders enjoying visa-free access to 195 destinations.

Japan ranks second, allowing its citizens visa-free travel to 193 countries.

Last year, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Singapore, and Spain jointly held the top position.

As in previous years, Afghanistan remains at the bottom of the ranking, 106th, with Afghan passport holders having visa-free access to only 26 destinations.

Above Afghanistan are Syria. 105th), Iraq, 104th and Pakistan and Yemen, (joint) 103rd.

In South Asia, Maldives ranks highest at 53rd, followed by India, 85th, Sri Lanka, 96th and Bangladesh, 100th.

North Korea is just ahead of Bangladesh at 99th, while Nepal follows at 101st.
