The Shura-e-Nizam faction (followers of Maulana Zubair) has announced a nationwide protest on January 10 and a Ulema conference on January 25, involving prominent Islamic scholars, to demand justice against Maulana Saad faction of Tabligh Jamaat.
Maulana Najmul Hasan, representing the Shura-e-Nizam, made this announcement during a press conference at the Kakrail Markaz Mosque in the capital on Saturday under the banner of Ulema-Mashayekh Bangladesh and Tabligh Jamaat Companions.
In a written statement, Maulana Najmul Hasan said: "If the government fails to take effective measures and achieve expected progress, the next course of action will be declared by the scholars at the Ulema conference."
He added: "The nation's scholars and Ulema leaders are deeply disappointed by the government’s delay in fulfilling its promises. Despite the main perpetrators of the killings roaming freely, no arrests have been made."
The spokesperson for the Tabligh further said: "In December 2018, with the direct support of the previous fascist government, Saad supporters launched a sudden attack on the Ijtema grounds, resulting in killings and injuring nearly 5,000 companions of ours. Despite committing such heinous crimes, they were let off easily under that government’s protection.”
He also said: “We believe that if justice had been served for those killings in 2018, the shameful incidents of December 2024 would not have occurred. If they are spared again, it may lead to even greater disasters in the future."
Maulana Najmul Hasan also accused the Saad faction of colluding with international and domestic anti-forces, saying: "If appropriate action is not taken against Saad supporters, not only will the Tabligh movement suffer, but the nation itself could be in jeopardy.”
He added: “We demand that the government swiftly arrest and bring to justice those involved in the December 17 killings."
Other scholars from the Shura-e-Nizam faction were also present at the press conference.
