A total of 1,185 complaints related to noise pollution were lodged by victims through the national emergency services number 999 on New Year’s Eve.
Inspector Anwar Sattar, media and public relations officer of 999, shared this information with the media on Wednesday.
Among these, 387 complaints were from Dhaka Metropolitan area, while 798 came from other regions of the country.
Inspector Sattar said: "In each case, efforts were made by 999 to notify the respective police stations for necessary action."
He added: "Last night, a fire broke out near the Labaid area of Dhanmondi, in front of Shwapno Shopping Mall, due to a sky lantern. Upon receiving the information, a firefighting team from Mohammadpur fire station was dispatched. However, the fire was extinguished by locals before their arrival."
