Shafiqul Alam, press secretary to the chief adviser, has said that the interim government is inspired by the ideals and nation-building dreams of the martyred intellectuals.
“We are dreaming of a new Bangladesh. Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus is moving forward with the promise of building a new Bangladesh, which is the continuation of the dream of the martyred intellectuals,” he said.
Shafiqul Alam made these comments on Saturday after paying tribute to the nation's greatest sons at the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial in Mirpur.
He said: "The oppressive acts of the invading forces of 1971 have been repeated in 2024 by the Awami League. The way the Pakistani military abducted people in 1971 mirrors what we witnessed in July this year."
After paying homage at the memorial, Legal Adviser Prof Asif Nazrul said: "The sacrifices of the intellectuals laid the foundation for the 2024 people's uprising. We cannot afford to miss this second opportunity to rebuild the nation."
The law adviser added: "With love for their country, the freedom fighters plunged into the struggle. In continuation of that spirit, we saw the people's uprising in July, where students risked their lives for democracy, human rights, and a society free from discrimination. Standing at this Martyred Intellectuals Memorial today reminds me of their sacrifices."
He also said: "After the sacrifices of 1971, we failed to build the Bangladesh of our dreams. This failure stemmed from a particular mindset and the shortcomings of a political party. We must ensure that such failures are not repeated."
