Chief Justice: Post-July revolution judiciary committed to protecting human rights

Spanish ambassador praises chief justice's initiatives to ensure independence of judiciary

Chief Justice Dr Syed Refaat Ahmed has said the judiciary in post-July revolution Bangladesh is committed to providing the highest protection for human rights.

He made this remark on Monday during a courtesy meeting with Gabriel María Sistiaga Ochoa de Chinchetru, the ambassador of Spain to Bangladesh, at the Supreme Court.

According to a press release from Supreme Court Public Relations Officer Md Shafiqul Islam, in the morning, the ambassador paid a courtesy visit to the chief justice. They exchanged pleasantries and discussed the traditions and cultures of Bangladesh and Spain.

The ambassador praised the chief justice's initiatives to ensure the independence of the judiciary in recent times.

He expressed optimism that under the strong leadership of the current chief justice, Bangladesh will play a significant role in ensuring good governance and justice in the future.

The Spanish ambassador informed the chief justice that Spain is fully prepared to offer cooperation to Bangladesh in building a strong judiciary.

Additionally, the ambassador expressed Spain’s interest in providing technical support for the modernization of Bangladesh's judiciary.

During the meeting, the chief justice reaffirmed his commitment to the rule of law in the country and assured the Spanish ambassador of full cooperation from the Bangladesh Supreme Court in enhancing mutual collaboration between both countries, especially in the modernization of the judiciary, separation of powers, and institutional development.

The chief justice highlighted that following the July revolution, the judiciary of Bangladesh is committed to providing the highest protection of human rights and assured that this commitment will continue in the future.
