Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus has said justice will be ensured for not only the killings of July and August but all atrocities committed over the past 15 years, specifically mentioning enforced disappearances.
In his address to the nation on Sunday to mark 100 days of governance, Yunus said countless individuals had been forcibly disappeared or murdered during that period.
He mentioned that his administration had formed a commission to investigate these disappearances. “The commission’s chief has informed me that as of October, they have documented 1,600 cases of enforced disappearances. They estimate this number may exceed 3,500.”
“... report your grievances to the commission without hesitation. No one will dare harm you again,” Yunus said.
The chief adviser emphasized that his government would hold everyone involved accountable, regardless of how powerful the accused was or which agency they belonged to.
“Not just domestically, we have also initiated measures to bring those involved in disappearances, murders and the July-August massacre to justice in international courts. To prevent any member of law enforcement or others from committing such crimes, we have signed the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance.”
