BRUR cancels ex-Chhatra League leader’s lecturer appointment

  • He has also been instructed to refund excess salary payments
  • ‘The position became redundant after the return of a faculty member from leave’
Update : 15 Nov 2024, 01:59 PM

The administration of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) has cancelled the temporary appointment of Md Monirul Islam, a former joint secretary of Dhaka University’s Bangladesh Chhatra League, who had been serving as a lecturer in the Department of History and Archaeology.

Along with the cancellation, he has been instructed to refund excess salary payments.

The office order, issued on Thursday by BRUR Registrar Dr Md Harun-or-Rashid, clarified that Monirul was initially appointed temporarily to fill a vacancy during another faculty member's study leave.

However, with the faculty member’s return on September 12, 2024, Monirul’s position became redundant, leading to the cancellation.

The order specifies that Monirul’s appointment was terminated retroactively from September 12, 2024, and directs him to deposit Tk62,377—his salary and allowances from September 12 to October 31, 2024—back into the university’s fund without delay.

Attempts to reach Monirul Islam by phone were unsuccessful, as his phone was found switched off.
