Railway Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan on Tuesday said that the online ticketing system is set to be revamped.
The aim is to improve transparency and accountability within Bangladesh Railway’s e-ticketing and route management.
According to the adviser, recent analyses revealed issues with ticket availability inconsistencies.
He said: “For instance, tickets from Kamalapur might not be available, but they could be from Tejgaon. We’re working to make this information more accessible.”
Partnered with Shohoz, the online ticketing service provider, Bangladesh Railway aims to soon allow passengers to see availability at different stations and times.
Shohoz has committed to implementing this update within two to three days.
The adviser said that verbal ticket reservations will be restricted to prevent misuse, adding that railway resources are public property.
He also highlighted the need to curb black market sales, where tickets are sold at inflated prices.
“We will take strict measures against employees involved in black-market activities,” he said.
Addressing inefficiencies in route allocations, the adviser said that certain trains serve low-demand routes, while high-demand routes like Dhaka-Sylhet and Dhaka-Chittagong could benefit from better service adjustments.
He mentioned ongoing reviews of railway projects to prioritize essential improvements and ensure fair project bidding to prevent recurring contracts among the same parties.
The adviser acknowledged the ticketing issues and assured that the government is addressing them at the root.
