The West Zone of Bangladesh Railway will begin transporting agricultural products, such as vegetables, fish, and meat, from the Rajshahi region to Dhaka at a low cost starting Saturday.
Farmers and traders can use this opportunity to send perishable goods from various areas in the region to the capital city Dhaka, daily.
The special train will include both refrigerated luggage vans and regular vans, according to Mamunul Islam, general manager of the West Zone of Bangladesh Railway.
The train is scheduled to depart from Rohanpur station in Chapainawabganj at 9:15am and will arrive at Tejgaon station in Dhaka at 5:20pm.
The transportation cost has been set at Tk1.50 per kilogram of goods.
From its departure point, the train will stop at 13 stations: Nachole, Amnura, Kakonhat, Rajshahi, Sardaha Road, Arani, Abdulpur, Azimnagar, Ishwardi Bypass, Chatmohar, Boral Bridge, and Joydebpur.
Earlier on Thursday, the railway authorities held a meeting on the Rajshahi station premises with stakeholders to discuss and plan how to ensure the success of this initiative.
The meeting was addressed by General Manager Mamunul Islam and Additional General Manager Ahammed Hossain Masum as the chief and special guests, respectively, with Commercial Officer Sujit Kumar Biswash presiding over the session.
