The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that the government is taking steps to ensure the safe return of Bangladeshis stranded in Lebanon due to the ongoing conflict.
Collaborating with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment.
The authorities are focused on facilitating the return of all Bangladeshis who wish to come home.
In a statement, the Ministry confirmed that an inter-ministerial meeting was convened, featuring Foreign Secretary Md Jashim Uddin, Expatriates’ Welfare Secretary Md Ruhul Amin, and Dr Md Shafiqur Rahman, the Managing Director & CEO of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
The meeting also included Bangladesh Mission Heads assigned to the Middle East via Zoom.
The Foreign Secretary has directed the Bangladeshi ambassador in Lebanon to implement necessary measures to ensure the safe return of stranded citizens.
Additionally, he emphasized the importance of safeguarding expatriates who choose to remain in Lebanon.
To facilitate the return process, a notification has been issued by the embassy for Bangladeshi citizens wishing to return.
Reports indicate that approximately a thousand migrant workers have expressed their intent to return home.
