Committee formed to probe into bribery allegation over DC posting

Ministry of Public Administration (MOPA) on Tuesday formed a one-member probe committee to investigate the allegation of Tk3 crore bribery over posting of a Deputy Commissioner (DC).

According to a notification of the MOPA, Additional Secretary Md Rezaul Maksud Zahedy will probe the authenticity of the allegation of offering a cheque for Tk3 which was published in a Bangla daily.

The ministry has asked the committee to submit the report along with specific opinion after verifying authenticity of the cheque to the senior secretary of the MOPA within the next three days.

The ministry formed the committee following a report published in the daily Kalbela newspaper on September 24, 2024, about offering a cheque for Tk3 crore for DC posting.

Senior assistant Secretary to the MOPA KM Yeasir Arafat will provide support to the committee as member secretary, the notification said.

According to the report, the cheque was found from the office room of a joint secretary, identified as Zia Uddin, of the Public Administration Ministry. A businessperson identified as Mirza Sabed Ali of Kurigram district, provided the cheque to the secretary. 

A script was found with the cheque with five names.
