Six employees of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) have been suspended on charges of ticket forgery.
They were caught by the army at the Sadarghat Launch Terminal in Dhaka.
The six employees are Salimullah Chowdhury, Jahangir Hossain and Monayem Basunia, and customs guards Rezwanul Islam, Rafiq Ullah and Parvez Khan.
A departmental order signed by Commodore Arif Ahmed Mustafa, chairman of BIWTA, announced the suspension of the employees.
The employees were illegally collecting and reselling government entrance tickets priced at Tk10 for passengers at the Lal Kuthi ghat of Sadarghat Launch Terminal last Saturday.
They were caught by a patrol team from the army during this time. Following the intervention of AKM Arif Uddin, additional director of the Port and Transport Department of BIWTA and general secretary of the Officers’ Association, they were released.
