The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has announced special measures to reduce passenger pressure at Sadarghat during the Eid journey.

In a press release issued on Saturday (March 14), the authority said special launch services will operate from Bosila Launch Ghat near Bosila Bridge and Shimulia Tourist Ghat near Purbachal’s Kanchan Bridge to facilitate travel through alternative waterways.

According to the plan, from Tuesday (March 17) until the day before Eid, 6 special launches will operate from Bosila Launch Ghat and 3 from Shimulia Tourist Ghat, carrying passengers on different routes.

BIWTA said the initiative aims to ease congestion at Sadarghat and improve passenger movement during the Eid travel period.

The authority will also introduce additional passenger support services at the terminals. From Tuesday until March 28, free porter services will be provided from the terminal to the launch for 12 days to assist passengers with luggage, excluding commercial goods.

Wheelchair services will also be available at Dhaka River Port (Sadarghat) and Barisal River Port to facilitate the movement of sick and physically disabled passengers.

The measures are intended to improve passenger services and ensure smoother travel during Eid, the authority said, adding that cooperation from passengers will be essential to make the initiative successful.
