The Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology said that broadband internet service has become operational in Khagrachhari and Rangamati.

This information was confirmed in a press release of the ministry on Saturday.

According to the notification, the news that the government has shut down the internet in view of the tension between ethnic minority and Bangalee in the hilly areas is not true. Currently, the internet is functional in the hilly areas.

The press release also informed that, in view of the news of internet shutdown, the ministry sought an explanation from BTRC, they said that BTRC has not given any instructions to shut down mobile network and fixed broadband internet.

However, on September 19, there were incidents of arson in various places in the conflict at Dighinala of Khagrachhari. As a result, Robi's 16 tower network was disrupted due to optical fiber damage, of which 14 have been fixed and two are under repair. Due to this, there is some disruption in the mobile internet connection, which is currently normal.

The notification states that due to the imposition of Section 144 in the relevant area, there has been a delay in repair work. Later, all telecommunications work was declared exempt from Section 144.

The press release also said that when the internet service provider ISPs were asked for an explanation, they said that broadband internet services are operational in Khagrachhari and Rangamati.

However, due to damaged internet connection cable in some areas and power situation in some areas is not normal, a small number of customers were deprived of internet service. However, the ISP operators in the area are in the process of restoring the damaged network and providing internet connection to customers through generators. Broadband internet will be back to normal very soon.

The people of the hilly areas have been requested not to be confused in this regard, the release added.
