In the last one and a half months, over 150 cases have been filed in Dhaka against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, who was ousted on August 5, following a student-led mass uprising.
Of these, 140 are murder cases, while 10 involve charges of attempted murder, threats, harassment, and assault.
The cases have been filed in the Magistrate courts of Dhaka, spanning 31 police stations.
A total of 42 cases have been filed in Jatrabari, 24 in Mirpur, 14 in Uttara-East, 10 in Savar, nine in Badda, five each in Mohammadpur and Kadamtali, and 4 in Rampura.
Three cases were filed at Tejgaon, New Market, Adabor, Sutrapur, Khilgaon, and Hatirjheel police stations, while Pallabi, Bangshal, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Banani, Paltan, Mugda, and Bhatara police stations each registered two cases.
One case was filed in Ashulia, Kafrul, Motijheel, Chawkbazar, Lalbagh, Gulshan, Airport, Shahbagh, Dhanmondi, and Kotwali police stations.
First murder case
The first murder case was filed against Sheikh Hasina in a Dhaka court on August 13.
Seven people, including Sheikh Hasina and Obaidul Quader, were accused in the murder of grocery shopkeeper Abu Sayed in police firing in Mohammadpur on July 19 during the quota movement. The case was filed with Mohammadpur police station.
Recent murder cases
Six more murder cases have been filed, with former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina named as the prime accused.
These cases were registered on Thursday in the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka.
In the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Dilruba Afroze Tithi, Sheikh Azizur Rahman lodged a Complaint Register (CR) case against Sheikh Hasina and 144 others. The court subsequently directed the relevant police station to treat the complaint as a First Information Report (FIR).
Another CR case was filed in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shaheen Reza against Sheikh Hasina, Obaidul Quader, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and 47 others. The court instructed the Jatrabari police to treat this complaint as an FIR.
Additionally, a murder case was filed against Sheikh Hasina and 46 others in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Arifur Rahman, with the court directing the Badda police to register the complaint as an FIR.
In the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saifuddin Hossain, another murder case was lodged against Sheikh Hasina and 35 others. The court ordered the Kadamtali police to file the case as an FIR.
Similarly, a murder case was filed against Sheikh Hasina and 57 others in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Belal Hossain, with the Rampura police instructed to treat the complaint as an FIR.
In the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arfatul Rakib, a murder case was filed against Sheikh Hasina and 33 others. The court later directed the Hatirjheel police to register the case as an FIR.
